It’s November 10, 1965, the morning after the blackout that left the entire Eastern seaboard in the dark. New York City’s first Morning Mayor, WABC’s Herb Oscar Anderson helps the city make sense of what happened. This was originally a scoped aircheck. I’ve restored the music in order to recreate the real-time listening experience.

This is B. Mitchel Reed, former WMCA Good Guy who spent most of his career in Los Angeles. Like Scott Muni and Murray The K, Reed was a fast talking bells-and-whistles Top 40 DJ, who took on a more laid-back and thoughtful delivery when he migrated to the FM band. Listen to BMR's early experiments with progressive rock on L.A.'s KFWB-AM in 1967.

It’s 1966 in Boss Angeles, and Humble Harve is here to clear up your skin and mess up your mind. Harve (AKA Harvey Miller) was a radio legend in both Philadelphia and L.A. from the late 1950s through the early 2000s.

This is the conclusion of our three part look back at WOR-FM’s first day of live programming on October 8, 1966—marking the first commercial rock programming on the FM band. This segment features Rosko, who was a fixture in New York radio for decades on WNEW-FM, WQIV, WBLS, WKTU, and WBAI.

This is part two of our look back to October, 1966, and the first day of live programming on WOR-FM/New York, the nation’s first commercial radio station to play rock music on the FM band. Personalities heard on part 2 are Scott Muni and Murray The K. This was originally a scoped aircheck, but I’ve restored all of the music for a better listening experience.

WOR-FM/New York was the first commercial FM station to play rock music. This is WOR-FM’s first day on the air with live talent (the station had been running jockless for 4 months due to a labor dispute). Personalities included Scott Muni, Johnny Michaels, Murray The K, and Rosko. This is the first of a three part series. Part 2 will arrive next Monday, October 9.

It's radio north of the border with 1050 CHUM, Canada's most influential Top 40 station of the 1960s and 70s. Today we feature longtime CHUM morning man Jungle Jay Nelson, whose nickname came from the days when he hosted a popular kiddie show on Canadian TV.
