Aircheck Of The Week

WOR-FM/New York was the first commercial FM station to play rock music. This is WOR-FM’s first day on the air with live talent (the station had been running jockless for 4 months due to a labor dispute). Personalities included Scott Muni, Johnny Michaels, Murray The K, and Rosko. This is the first of a three part series. Part 2 will arrive next Monday, October 9.

Recorded by Gary Liebisch as a scoped aircheck. I’ve restored all the music so you can listen in real time as you would have in 1966.

I've always found it fascinating how the audio engineers at a radio station can so totally control the sound of a radio station.

I didn't realize that Scott Muni was the DJ until he announced himself at the 11:20 mark. He doesn't sound like the "Scottso" I knew first on WABC-AM then WNEW-FM. The sound of the DJ's studio mike sucks all the personality out of his voice, which was a very unique radio voice.
