WVON/Chicago was one of the most influential Black radio stations of the sixties and beyond. Here's E. Rodney Jones with the soul of Chicago in 1966.

This is what finally caused my break-up with Me TV-FM. It would not play many of these songs heard on WVON, and I had a keen impression it was due to its primary intended listening audience: Old white people with racist feelings who would squawk or tune out if they heard a certain song.
