Aircheck Of The Week

If you were looking for Soul music on the radio in Chicago, WVON was the place to be. With great personalities like Herb Kent, Lucky Cordell, and Cecil Hale, WVON was the voice of Chicago's Black community. Here's a rare slice of Black radio as it was with Bill "Butterball" Crane during the Summer Of Love. It's August 1967 on Boss Radio 66.

  1. WVON, the "big black songbird of Chicago." If memory serves, which is no sure thing, they had a limited FCC license in the 60s that only allowed them to broadcast during daylight hours, which was insane. --Muzak McMusics
