James Brown Month: Godfather in the Garage part 2 - Link Wray "Hold It"
Link Wray savaging the James Brown Band instro "Hold It".
You are absolutely correct about that, and I should have noted it. I am, however, going to go out on a limb and speculate that the Wray Men version is inspired by the Brown Band version, since the Brown version is about twice the tempo of the Doggett version and the Wray version is about twice the tempo of Brown's. Things are going to get real shaky when I post about the early Sonics takes on Think and Night Train, neither of which truly originate with Brown! Doggett gets his due later in the month when we talk about honky tonks and pops corn.
Didn't 'Hold It' originate wirh Bill Doggett ?
