ZZ & De Maskers - Dracula
Here's a video sent in by listener Willem in the Netherlands of the first Dutch beatgroup. They accompanied Chubby Checker on "Baby Baby Balla Balla". Willem says: "the language is Dutch. The intro and the content of the Lyrics are loosely based on "Dinner with Drac", but it's an original song from there.
He is singing "Dracula, what are we going to eat?" In between he reads the menu, until he discovers his own name for desert."
Thank you, Willem! Be sure to check out his blog for more Halloween goodies.
zz and de maskers are great! check out the lp compilation called TABU (from french record shop, BORN BAD). it has a song called "beat girl" on it...
ReplyDeleteThey made many great records.
ReplyDelete"Beatgirl" was their first I believe.
Their biggest hit was an instro in Shadows style. (La Comparsa) But their style was usually more raunchy than that.
"Three's a crowd" has one of the wildest freakbeat solo's ever.
just found a 2 cd set called DRACULA: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION!
ReplyDeletecrayzee!
That 2cd covers their first two years. There's another 2cd covering the 1965-'68 period
ReplyDeleteIt's also called the complete collection, The Artone years.
These guys decided to split-up for one and a half year ago and recorded two cd's and a DVD from there last concert in "Het Zonnehuis" Oostzaan(NL)
ReplyDeleteThese recordings (100 pieces)
are yet collector items.
About two hours of splendid rock 'n roll that we had transmit in September of 2008 over the WWW.
Member Jan de Hont gave an intervieuw in the program about the split-up.
Thanks for those marbellous years guys !!
